    Default Shinnecock Mussels Appetizer

Molting male Common Eider--not sure if this is a bird of the year or not.

Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens with the 1/4X II TC and the EOS-1D MIV. ISO 400: 1/500 sec. at f/9 confirmed by histogram check. I went 1/3 lighter for the hens, 1/3 darker for the adult males still in plumage.

It must be dinner time on BPN :p

Nice timing, reminds me of the puffin stacking fish in their beak.

    Hi Denise :)

The subjects on this forum eat better than I do:) Thats looks tasty Artie, and I like the light and sharpness, together with the pastel blue of the water. I would maybe take a tad off the bottom

Now that is a mouthful! Really like the position of the catch light here, pulls your eye even more towards the eye. I wish the dark ripples were not directly behind his head. Sharp as always, nice brown tones on him.

I have only recently seen these birds for the first time so it is certainly not common to me.

They have a very interesting shaped beak.

Looks like he got two for the price of one :p

Very nice image Artie, also nice that you were able to get the reflection.

Good one Arty, agree with interesting beak, never seen one like that before. The mussels in the birds mouth make for a very intresting photo. I also like the reflection, head angle and eye contact!!

Hi Arthur, New species for me and very unique bill shape. Nice image with mussels adding to it. You get great detail with the 800+1.4. Might also consider cropping some off the bottom

Nice moment captured of one I have not seen in person yet. Techs look good as well as sharpness.

    Great detail with an 800 + 1.4!

My guess is a first year bird also.

Yes, much better than the 800 alone with a crop :)
