    Neil:

Nice look back pose with great head angle.
Good shooting angle, just enough perch to ground the image, but not to overpower the bird.
Like the background and the drops on breast.

    Cheers

Sweet image, Neil. Love the water droplets on the duck's belly.

Hard to beat your pair of instructors. My favorite duck nicely framed.

Nice image with pleasing bg. Techs look good and as mentioned the water drops add to the image.

    Neil,
Beautiful subject, sharp and well exposed.
I like the way the subject is placed in the right of the frame, looking into the the negative space.
    Great eye contact.

On my monitor it could be a few degrees warmer.

The image would be much stronger if you were able to have more room at the bottom.

Did you crop it that way to eliminate distracting or OOF foreground elements?

Good low perspective, and I like the colours, on both the duck and BG. I would maybe add a little to the bottom.

Neil, it was a pleasure meeting you on the Jetty.

You have a great image here and how lucky you are that you caught him out of the water.

I'm trying really hard to find something about this image that I don't like but I can't. Its a gorgeous click. The species, exposure, pose, HA, BG, perch everything looks like textbook stuff. Superbly done sir. Experience with the 2 mentors must have been an added treat.
    :) :)

    Rohan

Hey Neil, It was great meeting and working with you. Loverly image. I especially like the extra d-o-f for the angled away somewhat over-the-shoulder pose. And some good advice above by Randy, Mr. Shadle (aka Froggie), and others.

Thanks a stack for your membership support.

How are you doing with rear button focus? It takes a while to get used to it.

Thanks for all the compliments guys.
I had a lot of fun at the jetti and can't wait until I can go back :)

James, I agree with your point about more perch showing but it's all I have in the raw file. Something I need to pay more attention to in the future....

Beautiful shot - I agree with the other comments that the image seems a bit cold. If it were me, I would probably warm it up a bit.

Also entirely jealous... I still haven't ever been out there. This probably would have been a great weekend since the weather has been so warm. Afraid those rocks would be too icy otherwise.

    Charles
