Finally made it down to shoot the Brown Pelicans at La Jolla. I guess it's a bit early, so they don't have their full color, but it was a lot of fun, and I was able to get fairly close.
Cloned out light rock at LC and dark area in ocean, S&H, selective levels to soften shadow, curves, color sat., sharpening.
Hand held, 7D, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM +2.0x, Aperture-Priority AE,

Brendan:
Striking image, very sharp, perhaps just a smidge too sharp, as I am seeing some jaggies on the a few feathers, and it is just starting to look a bit crunchy. I know, hard to explain crunchy:)
Great colours, perfect exposure and really nice composition. Sharpness looks about right to me but I can see what Randy is getting at. I'm looking forward to some more shots too, great looking birds.
Love the contrast and definition in those feathers! Well done with the whites on the bill. I like the composition and the preening pose is great. Nice light on the bird too.
Thanks for looking and your feedback guys. Randy, I think I do see what you mean by crunchy, and you have a good eye, because I did push it just a little bit on the sharpening.
Thanks for looking Denise and Noelle. Denise, enjoyed reading your interviews, gave us good insight into two very colorful characters! Also checked out your site - man, you really have covered a lot of ground in many areas, and a lot of birds! Fun and interesting stuff in OOTB, I hope to post something there soon.
Noelle, looking forward to seeing your pelican shots. I had so much fun that day meeting them up close. They are amazing creatures and have a lot of character and personality. I have a few more to share.
