A night of freezing fog had coated everything in ice crystals. The following morning was clear and brought the deer out of their hiding places. 7D, 400DO + 1.4xTC, f6.3, 1/125s, ISO 800, +2/3 EC, handheld from vehicle, small crop on sides and top.

Post Production: It’s ALL about what you do with the tools and not, which brand of tool you use.
love how she pops against the frosty surrounds...nice one Steve! crisp and well exposed...
Steve - there's something ethereal about this image. Well done, nice detail, comp and eye contact. Love the frozen grasses.
TFS,
Rachel
I echo the above comments & add that I like the bits of frost on the mule's ears.
Andrew
Good crisp image of this deer. Well done. Isn't this called hoarfrost? I saw this in Kansas once. IMO one of the
greatest weather spectacles in nature.
Jack
Classic winter image. Very well done Steve.
Happy New Year Steve.
The killer frost really takes this to a higher level. The deer looks perfect the that stare and stance.
I am debating on the two tall stalks in front of the neck. Not saying take them out but at first i did not like them. Kind of growing on me know though.
Thanks for the comments everyone and a Happy New Year to all.
Jack,
I believe your right on the name and you're definitely right about it being a great weather spectacle. There was no evidence it occurred at all about two hours later.
Robert,
I debated about the stalks as well but left them in as I thought they helped show off the frost better, were centered nicely on the neck, and didn't cover any detail on the face.
Happy New Year Steve. I always enjoy these head on poses/stares, and especially if they have their ears out. The surrounding foliage certainly looks cold, and I like how we can see a few droplets on the head. Nice and sharp for the ss. Well captured.
Happy New Year to you as well Stuart.
Like the vert. comp and the deer really stands out against the surrounding frost.
