    Taken today in my front yard, Canon 7D, 100-400L at 400mm. 1/1000@5.6, 2/3 EV, ISO 2000, Av and pattern metering. All C/C welcome and thank you!

    Hi Russell! Very pretty bird (is he a captive or are those just strings on his perch?) I think he may be a bit crowded over on the right and from above. I would also consider lightening things up a bit as it is quite dark.

    Russell, I like your image very much. I would take a bit of the space away from the left, but not too much. I like the way the hawk is isolated to the right.

    Very nice pose.

    I second Ian's comments about a bit tight on the right and a tad dark.

    I might also take off on the left up to the centre fence board.

    Nice pose and BG. Maybe try a portrait crop with a little more room on top. I agree that the bird looks a touch dark. I would get rid of the white wire on the fence. I wish I had visitors like that in my Yard!

    You got some great advise here, Russell! Try to get the bird more to the ROT's position and lose the white wire on the fence post. A nice curves adjustment will really help with the dark issue and give the bird a nice pop. Nice capture of the bird - good pose and the one feather jutting out adds extra interest!
