I love this shot. The angle of the head allows the black and white show well. These birds are characters.

I like the pose, bg, exposure and unique activity of the Coot.

If mine, I might be tempted to tighten up a bit on the left side.

Certainly a nice low shooting angle as well.

Great BG, good detail on the head and eye, interesting pose.
A litttle more DOF would have helped the body.

Agree with Peter that a bit more DOF would be advantageous here. Still, what a character and such an original pose! I'd clean up the 2-3 little tiny white spots on his face and maybe pull the darker tones down just a bit more - they feel a tiny bit light to me.
