All the best for everyone for 2011!

As it seems that Blue Jays are the current topic here I thought that I'll post my version too. Self critic is related to secondary tips which I couldn't save :( Playing a Monday morning QB this probably didn't need any exposure compensation and I should have trusted camera's metering. That and little more DOF.

    Cheers,

    Mikko

I agree with your self-critic, especially the DOF part :)

I do, too, but I feel it's very well done overall, Mikko! Bluejays are a loud and noisy bird but you've got a nice, calm portrait here with a beautiful HA and pose. I see a tiny white spot on the dark blue stripe of his head that could be cloned out; everything else looks very nice - especially the details in his eye!

You got every thing right other than one thing your already know. Paying attention to histogram is the key.

Beautiful Bg, pose, perch and colors. Iagree with your self ceitique and Julies comment on the white spot.
Best wishes for the New Year.

A very nice pose and clean bg.

I don't see anything blown out so I am not sure why you think photo is over exposed. It looks fine to me. Good comment about checking on histogram.

I do wonder about the whites as they seem to have more blueish than straight up white. Perhaps this is natural.

More dof would have been nice as well, but may have meant slower ss, and I am not sure how stable a Blubb is.

Dave you are correct. What I should have said is that I wish there would be some details on those secondaries also. And what comes to that white spot; it's amazing how "blind" you can become to your own photos and miss things like that.

    Thanks everyone,

    Mikko

The Blue Jay Whites are correct. They are white in the under tail.
