I think this is a Song Sparrow. Taken in James City County, VA early morning yestaerday after our 10" snowfall. (thats the most we have had in 21 years) Sony A700, 70-400G @400mm f5.6
1/400, iso800. spot metering on the bird. About 70% of FF. I cloned out most of the OOF BG branches, de-saturated the BG blues, levels, contrast boost and usm on bird. I have a version with all the OOF branches removed but I liked this one better.
oh lovely - that makes a wonderful perch for that very detailed bird. I really like the warm colors of the bird against the cold grey background. you might want to pull the selection on the bird in a little tighter, down by its legs the background is lighter between the feathers than in the open space.
Hey Peter, sounds like you better find your snow boots! We got slammed here in the Midwest last Christmas so I'm pretty glad it missed us this time around.
I like what you've got here - the bird is very nice and you did a really nice job on the catchlight. You've got good details throughout the length of the bird and a good pose/HA.
I can see why you left the other branches in - it would be pretty stark without them - but I think in the future this would work better with the extraneous branches just a little bit more in focus. They don't need to be razor sharp but a bit more definition would be nice.
Greetings. Great detail and good work on the catch light. The white vacancies in the lower bg branch are a little hard to explain (snow?) without a bit more detail (along the lines of what Jules mentions). I like the diagonal perch.
