    Default Juvenile Bald Eagle

70-300@210 on D700 hand-held. ISO 1600 f8 1/800s. Large crop (unfortunately). All natural light. Cloudy. Intentionally made the background all white :)

Originally I wanted to post the pic in 1024 lengthwise but an error message said the width was more than 800. OK, my bad. Changed it to 1000 x 800 and it still didn't let me upload even though the limit for that file type is 1024x800. Fine again and I changed it to 900x700+. It still did not accept my upload saying it could not re-size it. Why did it have to be re-sized when the pic size is within the limits allowed??

So, linked it from somewhere and thanks for looking :

Hi Desmond. The limits are 1024 wide and 800 high, not 1024 on the long side. I like the focused stare and the sharpness. I'd try to bring out a little more detail in the darks.

Hmmm, this seems to be describing a pic in landscape format. But, which side is the length and which is the width though. The top side = wide side? It seems to me that the size of a pic in portrait format allowed to upload is always smaller than one in landscape format. Right? I wonder why the..."discrimination" ? :):p

The darks in the original are not that dark. But I find they look kind of hazy and so I chose to darken them/increase the contrast to remove that look.

Thanks for the response, Doug !

The near wing looks good, but the darks in the far wing looked blocked. 800 pixels was chosen for image height so that scrolling to see the entire image would be kept to a minimum or eliminated entirely for most users of the forum.

I see what Doug is saying about the far wing - it does appear to be a little bit blocked in the blacks. You have a wonderful pose and HA here, though...and I think this is one of the first times I've ever seen a juvenile bald eagle so thanks for sharing!

Here we have bald eagles from babies and up. Of course the babies you only see them in the nest with mom and dad...mostly mom, I guess :)

I did try different ways to improve the far wing but haven't found any satisfying one yet.

Thank you for the comments, Julie !
