I took this one back in May of this year. The Osprey was very intent on dining and allowed me to get quite close. Taken 3/18/10 along the James River near Jamestown, VA. Sony A700,
70-400G @400mm, f8, 1/800, iso 1000, ec +2.0, HH. I cropped to reduce the amount of the branch in the image. I would have liked a smaller perch and wish the tail wasn't clipped.
Merry Christmas to all, Peter
Fits the theme well and he doesn't look like he really wants to share!
I agree with your self critique, although the bigger birds can tolerate the bigger perches, matter of scale really.
The slip clipping of the ospreys tail, not an issue really for me. If you mean the fish tail, I would just clone off the very last tiny segment that touches the frame edge, so there is a little separation form the frame edge.
You got jut a bit too close as this could use some more room above and below. There are some funky image quality issues in the sky and on the head; the face looks over-sharpened and ???
