    Default Pheasant in snow

I braved the minus 14 temperatures today ( very unusual for the UK ) to head over to my local Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust establishment.

Understandably, everything was frozen and there were surprisingly few birds about, probably due to the lack of food and water.

I did find this chap braving the elements.

    C&C welcome.

    Austin:

The snow is a perfect backdrop for the wonderful rich plumage on this fellow.
    Excellent exposure, sharpness and comp.

I grew up in Iowa, where ring necked pheasants are very common. Sad to say I hunted them as a boy, but have gotten a bit smarter as an adult (at least in some ways:p)

It can get to -20 F at times, which is a bit nippy, but they were tough birds.

Hope to see more from your outing.

    Cheers

    Randy

    Austin,

Wonderful colors and lots of detail in the snow.
Do they sell snowshoes in the UK?

    Cheers,

I love the contrast between the bird and the snow.

Nice work with the sidelight, esp. on the shadowed side. Pose is a bit awkward and I wish that we could see the feet. But the snow is cool :)

I like the head angle and the textured feathers of the neck, breast, and flanks.

I love the different textures and colors of the feathers. Good job on the exposure especially considering the side lighting. I wouldn't mind seeing a more relaxed pose.

    Well done!!

Austin, good pose and HA, and I like the striking colours. Your minus 14 deg, C or F ? Want to borrow some sunny weather from our side here in SA? :)

Good job working in that tough, cold weather (the sharp, powdery snow makes it clear how cold it was).
