    I have photographed many spruce grouse over the years but none with such impressive purple highlights as this one has. Just had to show it to you.

    Great shot of this species. Looks like a tree ornament. Wish I could get this clean an image at 3200 with my D90.

    Michael:

    Very striking, perfect look back pose, fine exposure, detail, strong sense of the environment without blocking the bird much.

    Were you shooting at f/4? If so, remarkable DOF.

    Beautiful bird and killer sharper. Bummer that the head is turned away. Detail on the breast is superb as is the exposure.

    It a beaut Michael, I got one like this a few years ago..but not nearly as good a light. As stated above sharp, no noise for 3200....lolol..gotta love the D3. Happy Holidays bud..

    Bill hit the nail on the head when he said your grouse looks like a tree ornament! Thanks also for the demo of what the D3s is capable of producing at ISO 3200. Wow!
