This heron came walking over a little rise as I was waiting for some ducks to swim into range. It was unsure whether to continue on down to the shore or turn around. I was not leaving so bird reluctantly left after I took a picture.
50D, 500mm +1.4TC, 1/320, f/8, ISO400, flash and BB.
Perhaps the catch light needed to be changed a bit.
I am not sure what compensation I had flash set at.
Works very well. Great exposure, details and background. Fill flash worked perfect. As Mikko suggested, a tighter version works well too. Regarding catch light, I think there is nothing wrong with it and matches perfect with orientation of the neck..
I believe those before me got all the pertinent comments made! (You guys are so good!) The separation of the bird from that beautiful and complimentary BG really makes this a lovely heron portrait. I don't mind the catch light as is...it's small and adds a nice hint of light to the eye. I'd definitely take a little off the top crop wise and then see where you sit.
