    Default Another Horse

This is another horse that I photographed at the Civil War reenactment. The light was all wrong for a traditional portrait, but I decided to take the shot anyway and try for a chiaroscuro effect instead.

In PS, I pushed the BG to black and darkened the shadows of the horse. I then converted to B&W and added a slight sepia tone.

Any comments and suggestions would be most appreciated.

Awesome side/rim light effect, Christopher! Nice transformation to B&W.

Christopher, I think the chiaroscuro effect was the right decision for this image. It's moody pose adds to the effect in my opinion. I do wish that the glint in the eye was a bit more noticeable. Well done.:)

Nice one Christopher. I like the chiaroscuro effect. Agree with Denice on the the eye. If it were mine I think I would clone the long strand of hair out that is running through the eye and beyond. Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Hey Christopher, Denise covered exactly what I was going to say so I'll just add another "well done"!

This is a nice style for this portrait Christopher. I was going to make the same suggestion Andrew made about the hair over the eye. I think that would make the image cleaner. I do like the lighting style a lot. As you know I'm a big fan of the chiaroscuro techniques. I think we'll be seeing that theme again in 2011!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the kind words.

I've cloned out the offending hair. I tried pulling a little more detail out of the eye as Denise suggested, but it didn't really work because the eye is in such heavy shadow.
