Image made in YNP last winter.
D300, 400 2.8 w/1.4tc, f4, 1/1000, iso400, man exp, HH (rested on knee). OOF grass above nose and near vole would be an easy removal but have decided to leave them at this time.
Thanks for looking, comments and critiques appreciated.

I really like this one. The coyote is sharp and well exposed (maybe lighten a tad?). I wouldn't change the background -- the grass is subtle enough as to not take away from the subject but give you a sense of snow covered prairie. Very nice.

Love the composition and placement in the snow (good rule of thirds proportion). Love the blades of grass. Love the mouse (I assume its a mouse).

I feel the snow needs to be whiter and the coyote lighten up a bit.

How does this look to you Todd?

Levels: Used white dropper and set white point in snow w/o clipping it.
Curves: Used the (can't remember what you call it) little had with the up-arrow to click on coyote in a few places and adjust the contrast. Again adjusted whites a tad by clicking on the snow and darkening a smidgen (they had gotten too bright when adjusting the coyote so I brought them back to what I got with the levels adjustment.

    Sharpened it a tad too.

    Thanks for the comments.
Robert: I think for me somewhere in between the two would be about right. Time for me to recalibrate monitor I think, recent mac convert and its a bit different than my Vista machine (Although I like it way better, just need to get used to it).

Love the comp here Todd, and the look on the coyote oblivious to the struggling mouse, the BG is just right for mine.
Roberts repost is giving it that little extra punch.

I like the curving line of the coyote. Would agree that a slight lightening would bring out a little more detail, especially the eye.

    Todd,
A wonderful image, I wish I was there.
One more vote for lightening just a little bit.

    Cheers,

Interesting you say that. I use a mac and find that when I post, most comments involve suggestions associated with lightening the image. Always looks good on mine!

Mike, just re-calibrated my monitor last night and Roberts repost looks spot on now, mine is to dark.

Hi Todd, very nice shot of an animal we don't see enough of here. I like the OOf grass, and the vole adds a lot to it, prefer Roberts repost. Your image shows the habitat and the harsh conditions the coyote has to deal with.
    cheers

Todd, I like the pose of the coyote, showing off his catch. The OOF grasses actually add to the image, and I like Robert's snow adjustment.

Nicely capture Todd. Roberts tweaks have just brought to where it should be and proves you had all the right components, it just needed some fine tuning. The vole is a perfect touch.

    Rachel, Grant, Stuart and Steve,
Thanks for the comments, always much appreciated. After recalibrating my mac, Roberts repost is spot on. I reworked my files as well.

Very well captured and presented Todd. Just love the space and the catch a nice touch.
