I was wondering if anyone has perfected an LR3/PSE 9 workflow for bird photography.
Currently I import my RAW files into LR3, then within LR3 I make crop, exposure, clarity, vibrance and NR adjustments and sometimes do some sharpening. I then export a TIFF version of the edited RAW file into PSE 9 (using LR3's "edit photo in....." command) to do any major stuff such as clone stamping, gaussian blur, adjustment layers, etc. I also always try to do JPEG conversions and resizing in PSE 9.
I was wondering if my approach is similar to what others do or not...
I use LR with PS CS5. PSE should be similar. Your workflow is basically what I do, but I find it very convenient to export JPEGs from LR -- you can save presets, which is very convenient. After an image has gone to PS it comes back into the LR catalog, so I can export PS versions as well as adjusted raw images. A PS image would be resized there, but leave your master file as it was and rename it with "save as" if you do a resize for printing or whatever. No need to resize for a JPEG if you export it from LR -- it will do it for you.
If you are resizing for printing, that can also be done very nicely from LR. It will resize as needed on the fly, print, and then toss out the temp file, leaving your master file untouched. It does an excellent job of sharpening for the print.
I do it like you do for the most part. I am using the LR export function though when I want to convert a photo to jpeg to post on the forums though. I watermarks it and everything. But, export to the web function in PSE works just fine too. I have a separate web file folder on my desktop the I put all my critique forum photos into to keep them separate outside of my catalog. PSE does such a good job for what I need that it keeps preventing me from dropping $600+ on the full PS program.
