Captured this image a couple of weeks ago.
One of the last days before the winter weather showed up.
Nikon D300 600mm f4 lens Gitzo tripod and Jobu Gimbal Head.
0,0 exposure, f4 at 1/80 sec No flash.
Had to remove a very green tree trunk on the far right hand side.
    Your thoughts are most welcome,

Michael, I liked the exposure, subject placement and the pose a lot. Terrific IQ for a low light shot. Focus seems to me on the perch/wings and hence the head a little soft due to f/4. I think a round of sharpening on the head&shoulders will improve it a lot.

    Michael:

    Good thoughts from Kaustubh.
The natural catchlights are really good here, and help with the usual inky black eyes.
Good job neutralizing the green tree trunk.

I find the subtle striations in the LLC of the BG just a bit distracting, might smooth them a bit.

    Cheers

    Randy

Good look back pose, and I agree with Kaustubh regarding the focus point. The BG colour compliments the owl nicely.

    Thanks for the input guys,
The fucus point was on the right eye.
But the image is a tad soft due to the low shutter speed.
I'll try to give it another round of sharpening.

    Thanks,

    Michael

Very nice capture. Issues have been covered but you did a very good job under the conditions. Tree removal worked well too.

Excellent pose, perch, and BG (although I agree with Randy about the striations in LLC, and also to light spot in ULC). I would go in hue/saturation and desat the blue channel to rid the blue cast on the plumage.

I like the striations llc as they add some variety to the BKGR :)

I agree with Arthur, Its nice to have something different in an image that makes it interesting.
As far as the blue color cast, its a tough one I had already adjusted to the point where the back was white but the head and left side was a little cooler. So I decided to leave it. Barred Owls up here seem to always have a coolish tone to them . I think its natural to leave some of it in IMO.

    Merry Christmas Freinds,

    Michael
