    I managed to get two shots off before this Downy Woodpecker took off.
    I shot this horizontal and cropped it vertical this is about 50% of the original. Cloned out a piece of the branch that was sticking up over his beak.

    Camera Nikon D200
    Lens Nikon 300mm 2.8 with 2XTC
    RAW format
    Mode Manual
    Exposure 1/160s at f/7.1
    Compensated 1/3 over the meters suggested
    Meter Matrix
    No flash

    Nice work. The composition works well. I think this could use a bit more sharpening, it looks a little soft as is. I'd also like this image more if it weren't so noticable that the perch was snapped.
