Photographed through a window perched on a wooden pole. The bg is a white trellis, which I blurred a lot. A moderate crop. All comments welcome.

Hi Richard, Excellent head posture, conformation placement of subject good. This bird and perch seems to be slightly overly sharpened - that can be soffened within Photoshop with .01% or so Gaussian blur. The background has some bright spots that can be altered in Photoshop with Selection > Inverse > 250% Gaussian blur. You can accomplish these changes in Photoshop in many different ways - this is just one way.

P.S. Thinner perches make for more pleasing pictures.
    Richard keep them coming.

    Richard,

Nice exposure and good job with the background. Very nice complementing background for this subject.

Here are few things I would consider to improve this image.

    1. Perch coming out of corners are generally not aesthetically pleasing and I would avoid them.
    2. There seems to be some kind of metal object into which perch was placed. I would crop it out.
    3. Small nail at the end of the perch. I would get rid of that too.
    4. There seems to be some negative space around the subject and I would crop that also. I would go for a tighter crop.

here is my take and hope you dont mind.

Sid, I like your repost. Richard, a lovely exposure and a very nice BG. I'd tone down the bright area a bit if this were mine. For shooting through a window I'd say you got your money's worth. I also think the bird/perch is a bit oversharpened so back that down a bit as well.

Can you see how the tighter comp and the moving of the perch makes this image stronger? If not, ask questions and we'll try to explain further.

I'd also clean up the small seed on the bird's beak. :)

    Hi,

Thanks for the comments - yes, I can see that Sid's repost is more aesthetically pleasing.

Nicely done Richard. Impressive all the more if this was made through the glass of a window. I like the repost. HA perfect. Perch better in repost. The image does seem oversharpened. Could you lay out your sharpening work flow and we can have a look.
