Default 7D battery grip in wet weather

My wife and I are starting a migration from Nikon to Canon and just bought a 7D and battery grip. I don't see any gasket on the grip, and since the battery door has to be removed I'm wondering about use in wet weather. Anyone have good or bad experience with this?

I have used my 7D + battery grip in very wet weather without any problems.
    Cheers, Jay

Not recommended. I use mine only in the sun :) (But not because of the fear of moisture.)

Artie, I agree it is not recommended; however when you are in Antarctica there really is not much choice. Fortunately, even though I had a lot of wet days during the seven months in South America, no problems.

I remember a couple of years ago on one of Michael Reichmann's Antarctica trips there were a bunch of 5D Mark II bodies that died. This caused a lot of heated conversation on various boards. I had a chance to speak to someone on that trip and found out from him that most of the bodies that failed (if not all) had battery grips attached and the speculation was that moisture (especially corrosive salty moisture) had crept in between the grip and body. He also said that a couple of the bodies had taken direct hits of sea water during zodiac rides.

In short, if I were shooting in very inclement weather, I would remove the grip (or use a 1-series body).
