Default Common Redpoll in the Snow

Hot off the presses (shot this afternoon). There is nothing like the arrival of Redpolls to confirm that winter is indeed here to stay.

    Canon 5DII -- 400mm f/5.6L -- ISO640 -- 1/1000s @ f7.1 manual exposure -- shot from the car window on a beanbag -- heavily cropped

Well, the bird even looks cold! Lovely pose and crop. I'm probably wrong but is there a slight magenta cast?

Love the composition, perch, turned down pose and the falling snow. Very pleasing image to view.

Very nice composition and atmosphere - I know just how he feels! Despite your stated 'heavily cropped' there is still vg plumage definition.

I like the comp, and wintery feel to this. The snow drops do add interest, and would maybe sharpen the little guy a tad more.

I don't know about the cast as I've never seen the bird to compare - but I do agree with the sharpness that needs to be upped a tad. Lovely capture!

Jeff, down here in Ottawa we've seen a few Redpolls, they are great in a time of little bird activity, really like the composition, sharpness could be due to the crop. Very well captured...any Great Grays or Gyrfalcons around?

Love the mood in the image with the falling snow. Agree with previous comments re sharpness. I think it has potential for a holiday card... :)
