Roy I really don't find anything from this which I don't like other than the post the bird is on. I like the HA and the visible orange iris. Great sharpness and composition too so well done.

Agree, very nice Roy. Love the eye contact. Image is very sharp- is it too sharp? It might be just on the edge as viewed on my Macbook screen. I like the greenery on the left. A natural perch would have been preferable but I'd be very happy with this one!

Roy, I think this is going to be one of my alltime favorites of yours! What a great Wren portrait! I, too, like the angle, the pose and the greenery on the right.

I'm wondering what the OOF feathers are on the back of the bird? It doesn't look like either his wing or his tail...any idea? I'd almost be tempted to clone that out but I'm just not sure what's going on there. ???

    Roy,

Nice composition and pose. Subject looks sharp and nicely exposed.

I see from your settings your shutter speed was at 1/125sec and ISO at 200 for 700mm focal length.
To play safe it is always good to maintain shutter speed equivalent to reciprocal of focal length.
Even with a stationary subject and tripod locked lens, wind can cause unwanted blur on feathers and degrade image quality. D300s can produce very clean images upto ISO 800 and I would have kicked up my ISO to 640 and gained more shutter speed.

    Nice job.

Beautiful. I don't think I have ever seen colors like that on a bird. Real crisp detail, and a like there is a little splash of similar color in the left corner of shot
