Good capture, love the head angle and eye contact. Great how the beak is free of the tree.

Lovely woodpecker Gary - what is the species? The rich green background looks great. I think I would be inclined to crop off of the left side and eliminate the lighter, bleached wood (maybe go with 2:3 ratio?).

Nice looking woodpecker--would love to know the species (and to photograph it myself next time I get to Costa Rica). My only nit is that the overall image seems a bit dark on my monitor, but that's hard to tell not knowing the bird's natural color scheme. Well done.

A quick google search indicates that it appears to be a black-cheeked woodpecker.

Love all the colors and the detail even in the blacks. Nice headangle and great sharpness. I'd probably crop more from the left and perhaps top and bottom. Congrats. JR

Wonderful species, nicely captured. Another vote for taking a bit off the left.
