Going though some images and found this coyote I photographed near a local nature reserve. Thanks for looking.

I like the eyes & the look at the camera & the raised paw. The techs look good to me. Is the entire coyote available in your raw image? I would prefer to see the whole critter.

I'm with Andrew … not a great fan of animals cut in half and would prefer either a cropped head shot or the full body. However, given that restraint of personal aesthetics, I like the way the coyote is looking at you and the paw position. I also like the soft hint of shadow on the snow giving a bit of depth. TFS
Thanks for the comments. I do have images of the full body. He then started moving closer and just gave me this nice look. I do have a little more of the body, but decided a square crop worked a little better.
Thanks Dan for the explanation … as always it has to be a personal judgement call for the final crop and the way it is presented. Must have been a wonderful moment though.
Great pose by Coyote here and amazing light and eye contact took this over the top

Hi Dan, these guys are so photogenic. Love the light & detail and the sinking paw juxtapose to the raised one, sets the scene of winter.
Not a great lover of square crops, but this works well.![]()

Post Production: It’s ALL about what you do with the tools and not, which brand of tool you use.
this works well for me too - the raised paw needs to be in there Dan! maybe shave just a tad from the front to lose some of the "squareness"?
Thanks for the comments and the crop idea Morkel.
Hi Dan,
Sweet close-up of one of my favorite mammals. I use square crops all the time so I like what you've done and I like the way you've featured just the front half as I've done that with several fox photos with some success. The snow is perfect here and I like the aloof look in the coyote's eyes. The coyote appears a tad more yellowish than I'm used to with the ones I see in Missouri but I bet it's just the light. I might still play with the hue slider just a hair but probably not necessary. Thanks.

Thanks Danny. I tried that and it works pretty well.
Dan,
Just a beautiful coyote shot and your fine adjustment makes the critter more rich and natural in color.

Like the repost Dan. Great look on his face.
Lovely pose and head angle. I do like the pose but I am not such a big fan of the crop - less that it is square but more that it cuts the coyote in half.
Re colors I prefer the repost. In both images the shadow on the snow has a purplish color in both images which might be correct but is perhaps a bit strong on my monitor. JR
Nice light and good look from him. I agree with Joerg and perhaps because he is on the move, I don't like him cut in half.
Dan - Like the repost more but agree that there's a slight purplish cast to the snow. Nice eye contact and the bent paw make the shot.

Rachel
Thanks for the comments and the snow suggestion!
Nice image Dan, gotta love the song dogs! Square crop works here for me, nice and sharp. Cast in snow mentioned, from the looks of the image it has some long shadows so the cool color in the snow is probably not far off.
