I see he is watching you with the left eye. I had a similar encounter last year and waited about one hour for him to partially open his eyes. The owl is nicely framed by the bark. I would reduce the noise in the dark area around the owl.

    Jim:

Good choice for framing/centering of the bird in this image. Nice, soft colors, and I like the hint of light on the bark, goes well with his colors.

Yes, one with eye contact would be nice, but this one tells its own story, resting as you mentioned, and works well

Pretty sharp at this EFL and low shutter speed

    Cheers

A wonderful moment captured and the milky color of the owl is perfect. Framing is just right and great work with the settings on this one. Nice.

Agree with above comments, the eye contact is missing...

Good image. I like the wrinkly bark and the kiss of the dying sun. Your story is that he's resting, and that's a workable interpretation, but I'd like eye contact. Did you wait around awhile?

Love it! I'm yet to see this color morph. I would be tempted to rotate it a bit.
Not sure I understand the comments on eye-contact?

    The owl's eyes are closed.

I see:) I don't think it matters in this case though Craig.
It is not a must for a portrait to show the eyes, especially owls at daylight IMO.

    Cheers,

Of course open eyes are not a must, but if I'd been there and the owl'd opened his eyes, then I'd have been shooting. Eagerly.

Yes, of course, I agree 100%, sometimes, however, these kind of images are very cool though.

Yes. Were this excellent portrait mine, I'd be very satisfied.
