Here is another Northern Cardinal image from my backyard set up. These guys stick out like a sore thumb during the winter but it's nice to see some color during these bleak months when all the leaves have fallen off the trees.

    Canon 7D + 500mm f/4L, 1/1000 @ f/7.1, ISO 400

Canvas added to the top and some minor beak clean up. Vibrance in ACR set to -3 and reds set to -14 in CS4.

Amazing colors in this lovely bird!
Would prefer a tad more room at the top personally but like the pose of the bird.

    greetings,

Great eye contact and nice sharpness. I think the reds could be desaturated a bit on the breast. I think the original crop looks good for my taste.

I like the crop as is too, and I also think some of the reds could be desaturated a bit. Nice perky pose. Personally I find the perch so-so, and wish the bird itself was more pristine. Still a nice image.

Thank you all. The reds have already been toned down in my original edit and I'm afraid if I do it more it won't reflect the actual color of this male (he is the reddest Cardinal in my yard and chases off other Cardinals...even females).

I think you got this one just about right. One never tires of looking at cardinals . . .
