On a recent trip to US, I stopped at Barnegat Light, having been there 2 previous times. You just never know what your going to see, on any given day. The day we chose did not disappoint.

This Harlequin was one of the 2 best of the day..try as I might, I just have a heck of a time getting the whites just right..

If your planning on going check out the "Barnegat Jetty Site Guide",
    http://deniseippolito.smugmug.com/Ph...20338506_72NMC

If there's one thing to remember when going there is "Be really careful on the Rocks", 3 of Us, found out the hard way that day.

Still a wonderful place to photograph birds..I will go back in the new year

Paul, I think you did well considering the jetty. The water looks choppy. These guys are tough to expose for. You got pretty close which is always nice. Sharp well lit eye. I wish he had swung around a bit towards you but they are not always cooperative. I wish I could have met you that day. Hope to see you there soon. Thanks for the plug, I appreciate it.:) Nice job.

Hey Paul, A decent pose and well done on a choppy day. The whites in the JPEG are 100% toasted....

Nikon needs a ton more underexposure than Canon in situations like this. If you created this at zero (as it seems) I would fully expect the whites to be about 1 stop over....

    Did you see Purple Sandpiper?

    Thanks for your comments...

Artie their were quite a few Purple Sandpiper's around, probably 20+, they were mixed in with a few hundred Dunlin, we were there at low tide so most images were from above.

Nice looking bird. Tough exposure, and as Artie pointed out, the whites look a little cooked. I spent a day at Barnegat and managed to avoid slipping and falling until the end of the day. Thankfully Denise was there to 'catch' me! :p

The WHITEs are toasted. I forgot to include this above. And the clipping is worse than it looks on the histogram, at least on the JPEG :)
