Very nice. Good, sharp shot - well exposed. It would be a real killer if the loon was turned just a bit more towards the light.

Terrific head shot Chas. Incredible black details and the bill texture. red eye looks great and I think water droplets add a lot to the image.

    Allen,

If the head were turned more to the light I would start to loose detail. "Light Illuminates, Shadow Defines"

This is a really nice head image, the sharpness of everything, red eye and surrounding water color make it a winner..not often you can get this close...Well Done

Agree with Allen, very tight, but I still like it.

Charles I think this is a fantastic image. Lovely subtle light and texture contrasting with a razor sharp bill and bright red eye. I love the water droplets which add so much more to the image.TFS.

    Paul,

They come closer, even bringing the newly hatched chicks to within a few feet of us :) We took a DNR officer out with us, he replied, I have never seen anything like it.

    Best,

I like the close-up and details of this image, but feel the head as portrait would stand out better against a lighter BG. Also count me in the camp for a slight head turn :)
