    Default Sunset Reflection on Pond

This image is from last winter. This is shot through tall grass which surrounds a sunset lit marsh.

I cropped to pan. Cloned a few blades of grass......Did a light Orton effect, then experimented with Topaz simplify, and ended up with tiled glass look, which I kind of liked and stuck with.

    400mm
    ISO 1600
    1/6400 @ f/4.5

Jay, I love it. The top seems a bit cut-off as we can see the start of the cattail. Don't know if you have more of the cattail - if not I would crop some more off the top so it doesn't look clipped. The colors and the effect are gorgeous. The orange glow is lovely.

    Denise,

yes, I agree....I had no more canvass up top and was bit lazy about trying duplicate the effect in more canvass.

    I will trim more.............thanks...........her it is.................enough trim?

Jay, Wonderful tile effect and gradation of colors. I really like the lines, simple curves and angles of this image. TFS.

Beautiful work, Jay! Awesome color graduation and I love the stained glass look to it. I find the one blurred blade of grass on the far right a bit distracting. Very well done! :)

In the OP, far right 3/4's way up, thick black blade pointing to UR frame corner........the tip (top bend) and other parts were soft............

Very well done. The red glow radiating upwards into oranges is very dramatic as it is intersected with the black grasses. The tile like effect makes me think of modern art.

Jay, I agree with the above comments. It is gorgeous! I especially like the black sharp foreground silhouette.
    Could you post the original?

    Thanks Cheryl,

The original .nef RAW file was underexposed, needing some recovery. I will post the .tif file from the Nikon .nef RAW file conversion and exposure adjustment. I generally go from RAW .nef files to NIkon NX2 (perform basic adjustments like exposure if required, or sometimes do NIK work here) then convert to .tif and into LR3. Here is the the original .tif. If I remember right it has been cropped, slight glow from NIK Color Effects and exposure adjustments within NX2, before converting to .tif for further processing in LR3 and CS5. Sometimes, I jump back and forth between PS and Nikon Capture NX2...........The actual original is dark, and I don't think as useful, but it is available, if for some reason you would like to see it........................

    Beautiful work, Jay.

Cheryl, you are so kind. This was a lot of luck to this.......I was photoing swans with the sun over my shoulder (as Artie teaches). I turned to see the sunset and grabbed this image, with a 400mm lens still at f/4.5.............I was so annoyed with myself for not changing the camera settings to something more landscape friendly, I let the image sit for a year...........until OOTB.:)

Jay, if you had the time, how would you have changed your settings to make it "more landscape friendly"?

At the very least least I would have gone for f/11 or f/16 to get more DOF and bring the very FG grasses into focus. I was about 7-8 feet way, at 400m f/4.5 gives me an inch or so DOF............maybe less. I had my metering in single point focus for bird shots.............well, it single point exposed on the sun and underexposed everything else.............stuff like that.:) basically didn't take the time to think about what I was doing...........

I like this image a lot. Love the colors, the stained-glass look, the brightness, the blades of grass. I see Cheryl's concern with the OP, but, I think it is stronger than the cropped version. Here is my idea of how to solve the cattail. Like Cheryl, I still don't see what Christopher saw.

This is a very striking image. The colors are gorgeous and I love the silhouetted leaves. The effect you created with the filters and workflow is just about perfect!
