    Default Winter!

    Hi folks!

Technically speaking, it is still fall. But the forests north of Quebec city are covered with more than a meter of snow. :p

I'd like to know what you think of this one. It was not an easy one: very dim light and a white background (snow covered spruces).

    Josee:

    Looks like winter to me!
Nice perch, good flash work, sharp.
Wish his head was turned back towards us just a bit.
I might consider darkening the midtones just a bit, as they look a little washed out.

In general, I like the background, but I might try to blur the curving line that intersects with the back of the neck.

Perhaps a sliver more room to the left if you have it, so the tail doesn't seem crowded into the corner.

    Cheers

    Randy

Thank you Randy for that detailed commentary.

I calibrated my monitor with a Spyder 3 Pro and it seems that it is now a little bit too dark (and I produce photos that are a little bit too luminous).

I will make some adjustments tonight.

    Josee:

Please take my exposure comment with a grain of salt. I am at my work monitor, which tends to render images a bit lighter than they should be. I will try to remember to recheck it tonight at home.

    Cheers

Very nice feel to this one. Loved the sharpness. With birds oriented diagonally, cropping is always a bit tricky. I think a wider crop might work better here. I find it a little tight at top and left.

I'm not sure I did better with this one...

Too many new things: new laptop, new CS5, new monitor calibration. It's like I have to learn everything again!

Thanks to everyone for your help!

Allo Josée. I agree with the suggestions offered. The repost is an improvement, but I still think it looks a little bright overall...I know it can be difficult to calibrate to the point you were used to!
