    Default Weka, New Zealand

awesome busy birds and very curious.
shot this one with a 5D mkII at 19mm, the bird was as close as about 25 cm away from the front of the lense.

I've got a new serie of photo's of new zealand online on my website: http://www.ltdphoto.com
feel free to leave a message in the guestbook.

    Lesley:

Certainly an interesting perspective on this one. Were you behind the camera, or was it remote triggered? Very sharp on the eye and bill.

The wide angle perspective also comes with some compromises in limiting the amount of clutter in an image.

Please be sure to include all your technical details, camera, lens, settings and post. It really helps understand and critique an image.

I find the watermarking on the image distracting, esp. where it overlaps the bird forward thigh.

    Cheers

    Randy

This is one (at least to me) weird looking bird...anytime I see an image of a bird of never seen let alone heard of..is way cool. Is this an adult? I guess flightless? TFS Ditto on the water marking...

This certainly captures the Weka's personality! I once watched a Weka sort through a pile of clothes left on the beach by a swimmer. Through my binoculars I saw the Weka carefully choose the dainty underwear and run off into the bush. The female swimmer was beyond confused when she found her clothes totally disturbed and her underwear gone. I'm sure she thought there was a prankster in the woods. I was just too far away to tell her the real tale.

Yes, interesting perspective, and like Randy I am wanting more info on the making of this image. BTW embedded exif reads: 1/80s., f/8, ISO 1000. Must have been relatively dark ou there.

    Hi,

I got the image from my website and forgot that there even was a water marking, sorry.

@ Randy: I was behind the camera.
@ Paul: an adult and indeed flightless, big rail.
    @ Nancy: Great story :)
@ Daniel: there wasn't much light, but I had a polarisationfilter on my lense so that also took a lot of light.

    exif:
    5D mkII with canon 17/40mm @ 19mm.
    iso 1000, F8, 1/80 @ about 25cm.
