    Default Bosque Harrier

I'm in Northern California on a photography mini vacation; we're on the prowl for raptors. Here's an image from the Bosque of my favorite raptor living at the refuge. Taken last month. To me, images like this one emphasize the visual impact of BIF shots against a varied rather than a sky BG.

Hi Doug, I agree 100%. I prefer a varied BG like this, to a sky BG any day. I like the soaring posture, sharp, with good eye contact. The comp suits the wing spread nicely.

An excellent example of a BIF against a varied bg...more inspiration for me to keep working.

Doug, agreed....this sorta Bg is much better. Loved the light and the eye contact. If mine, I'd have the bird a tad( tiny bit) to the right in the frame.

Lovely image. Colors, pose, composition and sharpness are all great. And I completely agree with your preference of a BIF against a background other than sky. In fact, I had myself set the objective to get good BIF shots in front of pleasant backgrounds during my trip to Bosque this year. And I think I've done quite well though a good Harrier shot is still missing. :)

    Congrats! JR

Doug, I like this one a lot! With my 400/5.6, the background was not as good as yours, even the sharpness was acceptable, feel sad for not having the f4...:(

Typical Harrier in flight image in its environment. I like the detail in the near wing and great eye contact.

I've noticed that about your Bosque images John, and I agree!

Excellent fly shot with lovely background. I prefer this BG against blue sky.

Appreciate the feedback! Didn't have any luck with the light yesterday. Hoping for good light today!
