Every year a pair of Egyptian geese visit us for food and a swim in our pool; then disappear as breeding season progresses. In Oct. we noticed the female limping badly; it took over 3 weeks and eventually using a trap cage from the SPCA to catch her. Her leg was on the point of going gangrenous (see inset). We took her to the vet who cut out the embedded fishing line, gave her antibiotics and vitamin injections. She was released at home later that day and after 2 days, disappeared.
Yesterday, we heard her usual loud "honking" announcing her arrival and I went out with food.
Imagine my surprise to find Flo, her mate Gandy and 10 goslings in the pool.
She had apparently brought the family down the road from wherever the nest was, flown over our gate, encouraged the goslings under the fence; then come to the front to introduce them!!
How's that for a wonderful "Thank You"!
I wondered where you'd gone to! I can't see the image today (?) but I saw it for a moment when I passed through yesterday and it was adorable! What a wonderful reward for taking care of Mother Nature.
Thanks all. lol Ken, they did! First as you may have noticed we haven't been able to fill the pool so the goslings couldn't get out. We made a ramp and floated it for them!
The messy so-and so's are the Hadedas that also think it's their bath; in fact the they fight with the geese to have occupancy. Humans come a poor last:(
