    Hi Again Folks,

This is the first post in which I have selected the BG separately for the noise reduction. I did this when noticing how much details I lost when doing it to the whole photo. I could probably have done another round of NR still but lets see what people say. Similarly I was pondering if I should have done one more round of sharpening...

The bird in the picture is a Red-bellied Woodpecker in case someone was wondering and the stand is still the same than with DE Junco, just a different branch this time.

As usually any comments how to improve these pictures are all appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Mikko

Mikko, Sharpness looks fine to me and I wouldn't add anymore (if anything some might feel it is a tad over-sharpened). NR looks good too. I do see an outline on the underside of the beak and along the neck and breast. Wonderful pose and HA.:)

Thanks Denise. I can see it now too, especially under the beak. Does anybody know what's causing it?

Mikko, I think the outline may some original BG that you missed in selecting. I have found that I really need to zoom in to the subject to refine my selection boundary.
I do like the BG, the pose, the perch and I think the sharpening looks good as is.

Thanks Peter, that might be it. Here is the original in case someone is interested.

Mikko, this is a beauty! I love all the detail you pulled out of the eye - very nice - it really livens him up! You chose a super crop and got a beauty of a pose here.

I also think the sharpening is just a bit too much - just back it down in the white feathers a bit and I think you'll be right about perfect.

If I might, I would suggest you lighten the eye just a tad. These woodpeckers have such beautiful eyes. Your shot of this one is lovely.

Beautiful capture! I really like the pose. The background and perch really compliment the birds beautiful colors. I have one of these visiting my feeding station. Your colors are very accurate.
