    Default Male Tody

Since I posted a female shot a few days ago, I thought I'd post this male from yesterday. I am undecided on this shot as I don't like the background with the white from the dead tree limbs, although it does set off the bird colors. Leave as is, change background completely, or delete and any other points you may have?

    Camera Nikon D3S
    Exposure 0.003 sec (1/320)
    Aperture f/5.6
    Focal Length 600 mm
    ISO Speed 1250

Hi Fred, the bird looks great and the diagonal in-focus branches serve well to frame him. As you say, the heavy out-of-focus branches in the bkg are a shame. A successful replacement with a realistic background like in the rest of your image could a major improvement, but if you're not into bkg replacement I certainly wouldn't dump the image!

Love that bird. The Y branch overlapping bugged me way more than the BKGR so I did a quickie job with divide and conquer cloning and a few small Quick Masks. I could have done a lot better with the TIFF but please do not send it :)

Sharp with a perfect EXP and image quality still looks good.

Thanks Geoff, I'm going to attempt to replace the bg and eliminate the white areas. I was undecided on the Y branch but the version from Arthur convinced me to remove it.

Arthur, thanks for all the work! You've convinced me that the Y branch needs to go, but I still don't like the white branches in the bg, but I do like the bird so I'll work on replacing the bg. Don't worry about me sending you a TIFF, I love seeing the possibilities on shots from other people so I can learn more, but I don't want people to do the real work for me.:)

For me, I still don't like it and will try to replace the bg.

YAW. Replacing the BKGR is a tough one because of the feather edges...

I agree and normally do not go to that extent on image manipulation anyway. Now that I have their habitat and habits down it's just easier to shoot them again. Thanks for help!
