    Chris:

A big welcome to the Avian board. A great subject, well captured. Fine low shooting angle, tremendous pose with head back , bill open and hood erect! Background colors work very well.

Be sure to include details such as ISO, what exposure mode, etc. as it helps us critique and understand the shot better.

    Also any post processing details.

    Where was this taken?

There are a number of us from Michigan on the board.

Cheers, and congrats on a very fine first avian post.

    Randy

Awesome mating ritual pose - you got the it at the peek of the action. Great low angle and a perfect BG. Some fill flash would have helped some of the blacks here IMO and aslo given you a catchlight for the eye. Compositionally I would prefer less room below and more above (about opposite of what you now have). Strong image, lets see some more!:)

Awesome pose! The background colors really compliment the bird. You can even see "teeth" in the birds' beak.

I've been trying to get this pose for years! The Hoodie is always doing something to foil me! You've done a great job here; perfect timing, great sharpness, and a low angle. I do like Daniel's idea on composition. Look forward to more of your images!

Beautiful HM image. Pose, BG, water, detail all look great. I agree with previous composition comments.
These ducks frustrate the heck out of me, I get a decent image every once in awhile but still haven't gotten one this good. Congrats!

Well timed to capture this pose, especially the open beak. I like the low perspective, and smooth BG. I agree, taking off the bottom, and adding to the top will work.

I love the pose! Great looking image. I even like the extra room at the bottom since it has interest to me. Nicely done and welcome to BPN's Avian Forum.:)

Sure is a stunner, love the light, sharpness and pose. Randy would usually mention this: maybe slight CW rotation, suprised he missed it, or maybe my eyes need slight CW rotation. Great shot and welcome aboard.

One of the best Hoodie poses I've seen.

Love everything about it, but agree that fill flash would yield exquisite detail in blacks.

Welcome, I love this shot, all the colors are so defined and vibrant. Great head angle and pose with nice serration on the birds' beak. I just returned from my 1st photo op with a pair of Hooded Mergansers this morning and they weren't posin for me! I'll be thinking of your image next time I'm w the Hoodies!
