Im the first to admit that I could have used more EC to bring out the blacks in the chest area, but I was shooting other species. The BG is natural, and is OOF grass. Taken in a nature reserve close to my house. I did remove some distracting tufts LRC.

    Stuart,

Quite remarkable, always difficult to expose for this bird, I think you cracked it here.

    Fabulous perch, and BG.

Great bird, good perch...I love how the feet are gripping the stems tightly together. Nice BG. Awesome HA. I'd prefer the comp had you raised the camera up a bit more but understand that some situations appear by surprise with no time to study the comp. Have you tried recovering some of those blacks or are the details completely null?

Right, and the more EC you'd have used, the more that little white spot would have brightened out obnoxiously. I think you handled the dilemma rather well, Stu. Another fascinating African bird.

Thanks Dan. I have tried to recover them - no luck. I know from previous captures that a higher EC would have resulted in more detail in the blacks.

Thanks Ken and Craig for your feedback too.

Stuart, Still a nice capture and lovely pose. Very colorful bird that I would probably never get to see so thanks for sharing.

As you know ,these liitle fellas puff up their chest feathers to a big black bulge in breeding display.

Like this image Stuart for the reasons noted above. I like the exposure as the reds are often the colour that get blown and you have managed excellent detail in the face - another difficult area. Also like the diagonal composition of the perch

The bird, perch, and BG work so well together in this image. We'll give you a free pass on your EC! :)
