    Default No time for chops

    Folks,

Greetings. Busy, busy... hence the title. Here's one from a couple years ago both captured and processed.

Mostly pp for tone (from an underexposed shot), in-camera composition, minor crop. Line on left is a focus blurred post in the water w/ reflection.

    Looks Asian to me :)

    Cheers,

I like the idea of this one Michael. I'm not understanding the stick on the left. Did you clone some of the top of it? I like the soft muted tones and the placement of the bird.

Denise, thanks for commenting... The post is in the foreground and oof, calm water makes it impossible to see where it and it's reflection start/end. I think the post hits the water just about the mid-point of the image and from there downward is reflection.

Interesting composition, Michael. I like the color tone. I am unsure of the stick here as also the negative space on the lower left. I am wondering if moving the bird on the lower half makes it any stronger. I still like the light and the mood here. TFS.

Time is tight Michael but I liked the elements here so I played! In my repost, I added a "flood" effect to the bottom and then added your initials in an Asian font plus the little pseudo chop, which is just an element of red to show what it would add! The chop is just a snowflake with a circle around it!

I agree that this does have an Asian look. The twigs almost appear to be calligraphy. :)

Michael, I love the composition and mood of this. Personally I'm not sure about the post. Part of me thinks it might be better with the post removed and a chop and calligraphy on the lower left side to balance the bird, though I do like what Dan did as well.

    Indranil,

    Thanks much for the comments.

    Patti,

I'm glad you see calligraphy in the twigs... I had thought of collecting a few of these for a signature of sorts.

    Dan,

Thanks much for the repost... I like the flood effect... the initials & chop, too!

    Cheers,

    -Yamo-

    Christopher,

Thanks for the comment. I was a bit conflicted at first about the post on the left.

Some back story: I grew up with a Japanese screen in our living room that had an interesting take on negative space (much as is here but a landscape orientation). The post, for me, anchors the negative space and I would be disinclined to add the signature & chop as in Dan's repost as it disrupts the negative space (though it balances the composition).

In the end... the post makes the image for me (strange as that may seem :) ).

    Cheers,

    -Yamo-
