Default Something to check out, disaster proof hard drive

I just found this hard drive at Costco, I think I'm going to get one.

I have no expertise on fire ratings.
But even though the enclosure may survive as stated, how about the data on the hard drive inside? They don't say anything about that.
I'd like to know for how long and how hot the enclosure can be subjected to with the hard drive inside then taken out and plugged in and the data read.
Regardless, there is no substitute for having backup data at another physical location.

    Default Got mine today

Good point Tom. I checked it out and its 1/2 hour at 1550 degrees. I just got mine today. I'm very impressed, its a very heavy steel cabnet with a place to bolt it down.
I have to agree its always best to store off site which I do. However I don't update the files every day and I know my plastic external hard drives and computer wouldn't last a minute in a fire no less the hosing down by the fire dept. This will withstand 10 ft under water for 72 hours which could mean a fire upstairs and the unit drop into to the basement when the floor burns and the fire dept filling part of the basement with water while they handle the fire. I watched the demo video and beleive this is a good idea even though I don't have two stories and a basement. The fact that I can blot it down and it would withstand a hurricane is good enough for me. Rod

Heres a video showing the date is still good after the test. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-Zoj...eature=related
