    Default Bosque Silhouette

The crane pools at Bosque last week were somewhat of a disappointment to me as there were much fewer cranes compared to last year. Friday evening though it was great as many cranes not only landed about 30 yards from the edge of the pool but also at least some were facing me upon their approach. This image for instance is only slightly cropped from the left and bottom. Just wish for some clouds in the sky...

Joerg, good banking angle showing the full wingspread, and the silhouette works well against the colourful sky. IMHO, I feel the darker strip at the bottom doesnt add anything, and if this were mine, I would crop it away.

Joerg, I like the bottom strip :-) I wish for a tad more room above. Excellent pose with the wingspread and dangling feet.

I like the bottom strip too! Very nice silhouette - my only wish is that the neck was extended longer so we could see a bit of it and not have the throat merge with the wing. Great orange colour with an ever so slight gradiant...cool!

Yup; there is nothing wrong with yellow/orange. Was this the day after turkey day?

Was this bird coming or going? It looks as if it is going--flying away from you but they can be very deceptive in SILH..... IAC< very well done but yes to more room above. Hard to do with the gradient. Easy if you take some sources material images on the spot and save them :)

First, thank you all for taking the time to comment! As for the bottom strip I think it is important to provide some context or anchor for the birds in the frame.

    Yep, that's bothering me too.

Yes. It was too bad that you and your group weren't there that evening but I guess you were doing the slideshow for the blur workshop...

As you can see from the attached image it was coming towards me. I cranked up the exposure and took out the blacks for illustration purposes.

Actually, it was operator error in that I left too much of the mountains in the frame and not enough on top. Good reason to try again next year. :) And I actually took some "blank canvas" images of the spectacular sky a few days earlier... Stay tuned.

As I said, very deceptive. I had the group up to the zoo that afternoon and then it was the Blurry Day slide program.
