    Default Pronghorn Buck Portrait

This guy actually took a few steps toward me instead of running away as they usually do. I guess he was feeling a little bold as the rut was going on at the time. The stray hairs across the eye and the darkening of the right side of his face was due to his rubbing his scent glands (dark areas along the back of the jawline) on the taller weeds in the field. Taken in early evening light. 7D, 500/4, f4.5, 1/320s, ISO 1600, +2/3 EC, handheld from vehicle, portrait crop from full body original (a bit over 30% of original if my math is correct).

Very nice portrait of this buck. Great head on stare, exposure and sharpness look good. Nice bg to go with it.

DOF@f/4.5 looks good also with the nose to eyes sharp. Nice colour, detail and pose, would wish for just a tad more room on top- no big deal.

Hi Steve, great pose & framing, everything sits perfectly. The defused BG really lifts the detail and colours contained in the animal and those eyes just add that final touch.

My only thought/suggestion would be to use an inverted 'S' curve, (as Robert would say) which, when applied to the horns darker part of the top of the head and down along the bridge of the nose, it just brings out a tad more of the finer detail contained in this excellent image.

Hi Steve, I like the head on angle here, with good DOF. The detail on the horns show up nicely, and I like the markings and colours on the Pronghorn. Well captured.

Pronghorns are among the most beautiful animals in the USA as far as I'm concerned. I've never photographed one so I'll just enjoy your images for awhile longer. Wonderful close-up and straight on portrait. Love it.

I have never seen this animal, but I can tell you it is very beautiful. You captured it well on an exellent portrait. Sharp with nice colors, good DOF and it is looking at you big time. Very well done.
