    Default Sandhill Crane on Cottonwoods

The first day I was at Bosque (Nov 9) the colours of the Cottonwoods were amazing! They made for a nice backdrop one evening as the cranes flew in to roost.

    All the best!

The question I have is why do you not leave comments on any other posts? You are obviously an excellent photographer and I am sure that some of us could learn from your expertise.

Thanks for your comment Gary. If you actually look at the number of posts/threads that you and I both have you will see that our ratio is nearly identical. While I would love to comment on more/every photo I am also a very active member on another birds forum. There are simply only so many hours in the day to be online :o

Nice Glenn. Good light angle and wing position. I might bring the exposure down just a very little bit.

    Glenn,

You are right.....those cottonwoods make some rusty orange cotton candy for bokeh! I like your composition as it looks as though the bird just flew into the frame and is on its way out. I like the shadow of the forewing on the rearwing as well. I think Jeff is right that the image is a tiny bit bright overall and might pop a little more if brought down a notch on the slider.

Keeping strictly to the matter at hand (i.e. the photograph) I find the background interesting but a distraction to this iconic bird. It's beautifully executed photograph from a very special place, but not to my taste (which runs to placement of the bird in its habitat and telling a story about its life) -- for what it's worth.

I pay attention the the thread/post ratio and avoid commenting on the photos of thread-starters whose ratio is far below the 1 formula advocated by Artie. So I don't understand the issue with Glenn. His ratio is strong, and his comments aren't just perfunctory, either. Now, to the image. I'm wondering why the crop has to be so tight, and I'm wondering whether you can tone down the brightness a bit. Show us more of that sweet cottonwood background, toned down.

I tend to like close crops as it reveals the details in the bird better for me.
