Impressionistic Sandhills in the Dark....
This image was created on a dark, dreary Sunday evening (that would be 2 1/2 hours ago) at Harry's Crane Pool (the one to the north) at Bosque del Apache NWR, San Antonio, NM with the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II lens with the 1.4X II TC (hand held at 145mm) and the EOS-1D MIV. ISO 160. Evaluative metering +1 1/3 stops: 1 sec. at f/13. Manual flash at 1:1 with Better Beamer. Exposure determined by histogram check.

Artie, Did you convert this to a black and white or is this straight out of camera. I love the impressionistic swirls to this and the composition is lovely.:) TFS your technique.

Artie, I like the monochromatic feel. The swirls are very nice. I can see some of the crane's heads. TFS the technique.
Thanks all. I did de-saturate this completely so yes to the B&W question. I tried to jiggle the camera slightly for the first part of the exposure and then hold it relatively still for the flash at the end.
It has gotten cold the last few days. Denise and I have one final morning coming up. We fly to our homes this afternoon.

I like this a lot! It is so different from the blurs in your book and from any I have seen. The extra little swirl just makes it. It seems as it the birds are dancing. Very nice!
