I cropped a bit from the sides and toned down the bg.

I feel that if I had removed the snow flakes it takes away from the mood.

    Hi Dave,

Nice job with the exposure here....I know from my own experience that it's not easy to get details in the blacks on these little jewels and you did well on this one, very sharp too.

    Thanks Johan and Joel.

Johan, we kind of miss the spectacular Canadian winter here on the West coast, aka the Wet Coast. We get a lot of grey and gloomy days this time of year so a bit of snow can add a new look to things. It is all gone now.

I think may have few too many elements in the photo. I suppose I might have blurred it up a bit.

Dave, the bird is beautifully presented. I'm struggling with the OOF cattail on the left. If it were that OOF and in the background I think I'd like it better; as is, it keeps pulling my eye away from the bird. Maybe a tighter crop?

    Thanks Jules.

I had looked at cropping that cattail out, but the result seemed to leave the bird staring off into space sort of thing.

Nothing is blurred, just oof. I may try blurring things a bit to see how it looks.

Great sharpness on the bird here and I really like the atmosphere created by the snow. I would have liked the bird slightly higher in the frame. Often we talk about virtual feet being cut with waders, I get the impression here of the virtual tail being cut. I have a similar opinion as Julie about the other cattail.

I like the snow flakes & the chick a dee is very well presented. I like that its eye is visible & I think the exposure is excellent. I do agree with Jules re. the left OOF cattail.
