Default European Bee-eater - last light

    Attached Images Attached Images

I discovered a colony of bee-eaters in a sand quarry at a construction site. The light was magical and a brisk wind helped to slow down flight speed. The HA is less than ideal, but the light was so incredible, I thought it made up (I hope):)

Chris, this is fantastic. I love the OOF stuff at upper left that mirrors the colors of the bird. Gotta love the high ISO on that D3s!

Sweet shot, good of the bird to pick a colour coordinated appetiser.

Fantastic wing and tail spread! I like the marbled BG too. We'll forgive the "less than ideal" HA because of that SWEET light:)

Great wing and tail spread and good colour rendition of this species. Just love the eye despite your reservations about HA Chris.

    Hi Chris,

Amazing flight pose and the colors are off the charts. These bee eaters seem to be the most photogenic creatures in the world and this one was lucky enough to fly in front one of BPNs best. How sweet to add to that the catch of the little butterfly (moth?). The bokeh is crazy-good on this one as well. I suppose I know why you mentioned the head angle, but as you know, no wildlife or birding magazine would ever think about the head angle in this shot. The head angle is fantastic, as far as I'm concerned. If photographers only recorded birds flying toward them at an angle the world we be such a boring place!!

This is fantastic. The light is fabulous, and so is the BG. I am a canon user, but used the D3S for a month on an assignment, i would say i love the high ISO capabilities in this cam. Beautiful image again!

Indeed, Chris. By the way, I hope you know I didn't mean to imply that your shot was the result of the camera and not the photographer:)

Absolutely gorgeous, excellent details and position of the wings, not the mention the butterfly.

Great image with fantastic light....I also saw a large colony at Mbombela 2010 stadium but the light was disappointing on my visit but you encouraged me to have another try VWD
