    Default Cheetah look

This guy was in prime condition, having just sped across in a matter of seconds after a quick McDonald's (an Impala) but sadly missed and this was taken whilst he got his breathe back.

BG was as shot, NO cloning was done, just curves, levels, sat & minor sharpening.

    Steve:
A very handsome fellow, and probably a bit hungry too.
I like the composition, subdued background, exposure and great eye contact.

There is a minor black spot just to the right of his left ear. Might even be a bug. Just an option to clone that.

Do the cheetahs hunt in groups or more often solo?

    Cheers

    Randy

Hi Randy, yes there were lots of flies and to be honest, things like that I tend to leave in, although from a cosmetic POV easily removed and probably I should have, as I think it falls into the 'gardening' description IMHO. :D

From my limited perspective, it's the females that I have seen hunting alone, but that brothers tend to hunt together. If you want to know more then Grant Atkinson is the guy to ask, as he guides and lives in the right environment.

    Thanks

Beautiful portrait, very sharp, nice composition and, of course, the great eye contact. Very well done. Cheers.

    Steve,

A great example image for new photographers to learn what "pop" really means. The cat steps out of the background and almost out of my monitor. I especially love the reddish eyes and the nice "smile" for the camera. Super shot.

Built like a prize fighter, look at those forearms & chest muscles!:D
Nice details and BG Steve, only thing I'd do if mine would be to lighten the eyes just a tad.

Great looking cat Steve. I don't think I've ever seen a cheetah that looked this muscled (upper arms).

    Hi Steve,

I agree with Danny on this one, this images pops. The Cheetah really stands out from the BKGR.
I like the colours and tones in the BKGR as well as they compliment the tones in the Cheetah perfectly.

I would "prune" the dark mark and accept that as a dust bunny.

    Cheers

    Hi Randy

Female Cheetahs are solitary, there cubs stay with them for about 14-18 months, Males bond & stay togeather for life so they hunt in groups able to bring down larger prey, the only time females hunt in a group is with there own cubs.

    Cheers

Hi Steve, excellent cheetah shot, and even though the ears are back, there is enough direct eye contact to make it work for me. The contrast between the detail in the cheetah and the OOF BG is excellent. Also really like the strong lines on his face, leading all the way to the two exposed lower canine teeth. Only way this could have been better for me would have been if the ears were erect :)About the question asked, as Ken D said, males hunt together, if they are coalition partners. You can and do get solitary males, as well as coalitions of what are usually male littermates.
    cheers for now
    Grant

Simply outstanding Steve. Love the colours, the soft background, the way the cheetah really zings. Good facial expression and composition. I don't usually mind the flies, adds a sense of "being there" as I go to swat them away! :p
