Another trumpeter swan shot from my recent outings to the Upper Mississippi Management Area in Missouri. This one is technically weak but worth sharing for the pose, I think. I did nothing with the color....just sunrise light. Thanks.

    Danny:

Absolutely worth sharing. Soft, warm light, great wing spread on flapping bird, like the head shadow on breast, dreamy background.
If the right birds head was around a bit, even better. Could consider a little water clean up, esp. the spot on the lower edge, left.

    Perfect, no. Striking, yes!

    Cheers

Thanks for sharing. It's not always about perfect techs and sharpness. Love the image!

I echo Randy: "Perfect, no, striking, yes." But why, besides the right hand bird's looking away, is the shot less than perfect? Is the problem that you were a little far away and that as you cropped in noise started to appear? I love the color of your background, but it is a bit grainy. Good work, nonetheless.

Danny, as the others mentioned, this is really nice to look at! I love the soft light too, and the shadow on the middle bird's breast is really an interesting bonus. I'm a bit confused about why the image doesn't show more detail as the tech specs look pretty good. Is it a sizable crop?

Thanks friends and Happy Thanksgiving. Yes, the image is just over the edge crop-wise so I've lost a lot of detail and as Craig said, the noise is creeping in with the resulting magnification. I've really enjoyed these swans over the past few weeks but I've got to get my camo kayak out and start working with the ducks now.

Why not give back some of the digital zoom in a new crop? The new shot will probably still be remarkable. Your background seems to be glowing very nicely; why not show us more of it? Though smaller, your middle swan will still be majestic, will still look like the statue of Jesus over Rio de Janeiro--but with less noise.

If I start backing off, I run into trouble pretty quick....see attached. I'd have to clone out a whole swan or two and I'm afraid if I did that, the Gods of nature photography might send some bad karma my way.:) Thanks for the metaphor though, Craig....very funny!

Why, I'm liking the wider shot quite a lot. What gorgeous light you had that morning.

It is starting to get muddled at this point as I have so many others with the swans in beautiful position in wide shots, but of course not with the Jesus over Rio pose. It was quite a magic morning to be sure.

Altohugh I enjoyed viewing the OP, I'm thinking the repost would look great as a pano with about 2/3 to 3/5 of the bottom cropped away. Awesome light, and good poses by all the birds - although I suspect you might have wished the collared one wasn't. I love the tention between what looks like a cold morning with warm light.

Certainly worth sharing! Might consider cleaning up the water a bit? Light has a dream-like quality

I like your wide shot. I think I would se it for a vertical composition.
