    Stuart,

This is a great looking shot....very whimsical, especially the bird on the right with its crouch and suspicious look. The sky is gorgeous as a background for whatever hijinx these critters are planning. The chunk of wood is pretty powerful and if I scroll down a bit and remove some of it from my screen it seems to balance a little better but I don't mind big perches at all. I never seem to take my own advice but with the shutter at 2000, you could have cranked that big 200 - 400 down a bit more on the ole f-stop to get more depth of field and bring that bird on the left into the same focus as crouchy. That might have made this one a little better yet. Thanks.

That lower bird is up to no good!!

I didn't like the perch at first, but it has since grown on me...I like its' square angles contrasting with the egrets' curves. Love the BG. Good control of the whites. I wish the right fella's bill and neck hadn't come into shadow. As Danny points out, stopping down to get the left bird in focus too would have been something to consider...it could probably stand an additional round of sharpening (at least for web). I would have shifted the whole scene a bit more to the right.

I like the sky and the juxtaposition of the 2 egrets, and the expression of the lower one in particular. I agree that the birds look a tad soft, particularly the left one. Also agree that a bit more room on the left would have the birds looking more into the image. The overall blue and white effect is restful. The large perch doesn't really interfere.
