    Default Raccoon Tail

Several of you commented on my previous raccoon image that you never get to see these creatures in the wild so I decided to share a second shot of one of my pond visitors, this time with a view of the tail which is the most interesting part of the raccoon along with its mask. My aperture was wide open so I'm starting to lose a bit of focus on the animal's left eye.

Another striking image Danny. Techs look good as with the previous coon. See quite a few here in Seattle area, but always a treat. They are so curious and fun to watch although can be a nuisance at times. Well done, love the habitat.

Thanks for posting this, it is a real beauty in a great environment. Nice to see the little animals.

Hi Danny, yet again a good habitat/environment image and based on the techs, illustrating her/him extremely well, considering the SS. He/she seems quite at ease/relaxed with your presence, but obviously hidden by your 'blind', have they good good hearing, eye sight, or smell, or all three, be nice to know?

Could this be a project in the making perhaps? :D

    Nice one.

Danny - another great racoon shot. Like the pose with the tail held out of the water.

You bet......all three senses are keen. I always think of them as miniature bears as they can do a lot of damage trying to get to your bird feeders, trash cans, etc. at night.....hard to stop.

A routine visitor to my backyard bird feeders. Well captured for the reasons mentioned above.

lovely portrait here and the colours around the raccoon make it pop nicely since it's "blandish" :)
are you using a mobile "blind", Danny?

    Hi Morkel,

I use a Trekker T-100 blind which I order from Cabelas here in the U.S. but they are available elsewhere. I love this blind because it is cheap ($40.00) and it is shaped like a tripod so when you set your tripod up inside the blind the front leg has somewhere to go. Attached is a rough image of the blind. It takes less than a minute to set up and tear down and has a backpack to carry it wherever you want to go.....very light; only a few pounds. I have been using this blind for four years. Hope this helps.

    Hi Danny,
This is one of the nicest raccoon shots I've seen. Nice profile view (especially the tail), great eye contact, and some nice habitat both in front and behind. Reminds me of a picture from an animal stamp book I had as a kid.

Like the low angle and the grass behind the raccoon. Nice eye contact as well.
