    Nice detail and pose. The white on the head is a little hot. The BG is a little disturbing, maybe from heat waves (we have little heat here, so I am not an expert on that subject).

    Yup, Hal's right about the whites being hot...and the blacks are blocked as well. Take a look at your histogram and you'll see the spikes. I do like the high contrast of the bird against the colorful BG but you might pull both the whites and blacks back into line (or at least a bit closer!)

    I'd blur the BG a bit more - I like the detail here but there is a funky heat wave thing going on right above the back branch. If you want a real challenge, Gus, try cloning out that back branch while you're at it...

    It's a lovely image - well composed - just need to get those highs and lows back into normal parameters.

    Hi Folks;

    Don't know if I'm up to all these challenges, but with a Kobe hamberger under my belt, and no wine (I was the dedsignated driver) I'll give it a go . . . .

    Going down to 32 tonight, but will be sunny and warm by 11 AM to send Gina's sister back to genuine cold in Bournemouth.rrrr :cool:

    Great pose. In your second post, I think I'd pull back on the sharpening a bit.

    Hi Gus, I agree on reducing the sharpening, a lot I would say. A reduction of contrast could help too. If you started from a raw file you could try and reduce the exposure on the whites in the plumage from the start, since it looks like your current method has turned them grey with no detail. Ask if you need a walkthrough for the software, I'm sure various people can help and would be glad to.

    Good job on the bg in repost Gus.

    I like the composition and good idea about the exposure.

    Hopefully the next one picks a bit more natural perch for you.

    That's just amazing. How the heck did you separate the background out and then blur it like that?
